Background

Monia, March, 2008, a short-lived coup by Russian backed armed forces hard liners, led by an ex USSR officer has taken control of parliment, national television, radio and key police stations around the country. His "Iron Guard" is made up of around 30% of the Monian army aswell as like-minded soliders and officers from the former USSR old-guard.

The Iron Guard's grip on power, however lasted just a week, before the better equiped loyal government forces were able to recapture all of the installations taken in the coup.

They were, however, only successful in capturing or killing around 40% of the Iron Guard, the remainder heading for the mountains to regroup and plan their next move.

On March 14th the Russian federation launched a full-scale invasion of Monia, and met strong resistance from the Monian armed forces. Outnumbered, the Monian forces were forced to rely heavily on their armoured divisions to overwealm the RF's firepower.

The Monian goverment asked for help from the European Union and Nato, who responded quickly with extra troops. However Russian Federation troops proved to be able to mobilise quickly and have been difficult to contain.

The UN also have personnel in the country as observers to check on the WDA equipment left after the break up of the USSR.

The Eastern Alliance have also launched an invasion in to Monia, under the pretense of liberating the Monian people from the Russian invaders. This univited assistance has been well recieved by the people, however the goverment suspect that the Eastern Alliance has it's own adjenda.

As the Monian army is increasing being overwealmed, the government has gone into hiding and ordered it's armed forces to disband and regroup to launch geurilla action against both the RF and EA forces. The Monian force have planned for this type of action, and have large stock piles of stones and weapons in hides. They have also been building underground bases to operate from. Unfortunatly for them their own rebels, responsible for the original coup, also know the location of many of these stock piles and hides.

The UN Council have mobilised nato forces and their lead element should be in the area by the 25rd of June. This initial wave is the Foward Recon Units from Britiain, America and Germany. These units are instructed to locate and recce targets for when the main Nato task force arrives.

The UN are also sending additional troops into the area to protect their compounds and convoys, and also to assist the Red Cross.

The UN have also taken control of several key weapons stores and factories, and are currently seeking the assistance of NATO to help secure these locations, as they are also targets for both the EA and RF. The UN are also seeking assistance from NATO with identifying and locating people in need of protective custody from the invading forces, such as weapons scientists, engineers and doctors.  Key people are being smuggled out of the country on aid flights returning to base.

The Red Cross have already started providing medical and food aid to the Monian people, and they have the full protection and backing of the UN and Nato, who have already ratified a resolution backing air strikes against any army attacking Red Cross operations.

TV crews are also in the area, and also have the full protection of the UN aswell as their own private bodyguards.

Overall the situation in Monia is becoming increasingly chaotic, with the EA still operating under the banner of friendly intervention, the RF under clear orders to take control of the country and the Government forces split in two and being forced to defend their own country by guerilla tactics.
