Independant Helicopter Assault Company
Recce Troop, Sniper Troop and FACT (Forward Air Control Troop), are normally landed ahead of the main assault - normally up to 24 hours before. This tactical unit will deploy from the insertion point and clear and protect the landing zone ready for the main landing.
The first wave of the main assault are the first platoon, using 4 helicopters, inserting a full platoon. Elements of the support platoon and company headquarters. will be present in all assault waves. A full company air assault is made up of 4 waves, as follows:
Wave 1 : Will land and move to the assault stage area and prepare for assault on mission target.
Wave 2 : Will land and take over from FACT, who will then move out to array out other tasks or missions. Wave 2 will hold until other waves are landed in the LZ.
Wave 3 : Will land and move off to staging area.
Wave 4 : Will land with all extra equipment and anything else needed.
Any POW captured or casualties will be air lifted out after each wave has landed. Choppers will stay on the ground for a maximum of 2 minutes to load.
